University of Cape Coast (UCC) has indefinitely postponed its re-opening date due to what it describes as circumstance beyond control
Though reasons for the postponement was not clearly stated, it is believed that it is as a result of the strike by the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG).
The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) declared an indefinite strike in July 2014 to protest the government’s decision to scrap the payment of book and research allowances to tertiary institutions.
The government has stated that it will scrap the payment of book and research allowances and establish a national research fund instead.
UCC was initially scheduled to re-open school on the 2nd and 9th August, 2014 for fresh and continuing students respectively.
A press statement issued by the University noted that new reopening arrangement will be announced later.
It further entreated students to keep checking the electronic and print media as well as the University’s website – www.ucc.edu.gh for more updates.

It is hereby announced for the information of all fresh and continuing students of the University of Cape Coast as well as the general public that, due to circumstances beyond the control of University Management, the re-opening date of the University for the 2014/2015 Academic Year has been postponed INDEFINITELY.
New re-opening arrangements will be announced later. All are entreated to keep checking in the electronic and print media as well the University website for UPDATES.
We regret the inconvenience caused.

It is our prayer that this will not become a repeat of the POTAG situation. We hope the government and UTAG, POTAG will find a lasting solution to this impase.
